Initial Perception
Initial Perception
This portrait series investigates twelve people with scars and how these physical marks have affected their lives. From hiding the scars, feeling proud or serving as a reminder, these photographs aim to challenge our initial perceptions and look past their physical marks.
Each portrait, taken in their homes, provides a comfortable and secure space for each person to convey vulnerability while maintaining dignity in their portrayal. Direct and unflinching in their gaze, we are compelled to engage on a personal level and see each individual for more than just their scars.
